He is unlocked during the game, or you can unlock him in the Heroes section for Essence. 

Isaac is a wise Mage from a Lost Time – the forgotten part of the Cloud Kingdom, a mysterious, long-lost world full of magic, uncommon creatures, and vast riches. 

He is a venerable human mage with bushy white eyebrows and a long mustache.
